Padstow is roughly halfway along the Cornish peninsula so is convenient for all parts of the county.
The north coast has dramatic, granite cliffs whilst the south coast is gentler but equally beautiful; both have lovely sandy bays. Central Cornwall has wild moors studded with iron-age monuments.
There are many beautiful gardens nearby, including: The lost Gardens of Heligan, Lanhydrock and the famous Eden Project.
Padstow is a working fishing port on the North Cornish coast. A picturesque harbour on the well-sheltered Camel estuary, it is close to many wonderful beaches and spectacular cliff scenery.
Padstow has many pubs and restaurants (including Rick Stein's famous Seafood Restaurant).
The estuary itself is used for surfing, sailing and water-skiing while the coastal path has fine views and access to sandy coves. A popular cycle path follows the Camel to Wadebridge and beyond (cycles can be hired).
